An editorial portfolio site for an architecture practice, where projects are presented like printed monographs and inquiries are routed by project type.
Concept project — a self-initiated exploration by Webroaden with a fictional company. It is not a client engagement and shows no real-world results.
Interface concept, rendered in code. Names, figures and content are illustrative.
The challenge
Architecture portfolios tend to be either beautiful and slow or fast and forgettable. The concept brief: present large-format imagery and long-form case studies with the pacing of a printed monograph, while keeping the site fast on mobile networks and simple for a small team to update.
Approach
The decisions that shape the product — each one chosen to solve a specific part of the problem.
A 12-column grid with three image ratios and a typographic scale borrowed from print, giving every project page rhythm without bespoke layouts.
Responsive AVIF and WebP generation, blurred placeholders and priority hints so large imagery never blocks the first paint.
Projects are modeled as reusable blocks — context, drawings, materials, outcome — so editors assemble pages rather than design them.
An inquiry form that adapts its questions by project type and routes to the right partner.
Intended outcomes
Design goals for this concept — not measured results from a live product.
Large imagery that stays within a strict mobile performance budget
Case studies that editors can publish without developer help
Inquiries arrive pre-qualified by project type and scale
